1893 Barber Dime, Stunning Old Time Color!
Year: 1893
Condition: PCGS MS-64
Description: (SOLD January, 2016 for $465) A stunningly toned coin obviously out of an old time album, with about as perfect a concentric toning on the Reverse as you can get. An obvious Choice BU in an older PCGS light blue label slab. An almost “gimme” for a CAC sticker – definitely for the lover of original color as I had to pay a premium for this piece.

1949 Roosevelt Dime, Gem BU, Nice Toning
Year: 1949
Condition: PCGS MS-66
Description: This is a duplicate out of my own toned Roosevelt Dime set. These coins were accumulated mostly one at a time over a number of years of purchasing partial and complete sets and/or collections, and most were pulled out of old Wayte Raymond or Whitman Classic coin albums. The toning like that of all of the other dates I am offering is guaranteed genuine and original (obviously, as PCGS had no problem with the coin). Certainly worth a bit of a premium for the great color.

1952-S Quarter, Uncirculated, Deeper Toning
Year: 1952S
Condition: MS-60 to 63
Description: Deeper original toning, typical of a coin stored in a Whitman folder, or perhaps a paper envelope. Russet-Brown with touches of green highlights, over soft "silver gray" original surfaces with typical 1950's S-Mint luster. The coin shows a few marks, so received some handling, but still grades Unc, but not Choice. This type of toning is not everyone's cup of tea, as the toning is a bit "deep", but I like it - offered for another fan of color. Please note: the two "blobs" that show on the Reverse rim appear to be spots of glue (not rim bumps), which helps support the Whitman folder genesis of the toning. This could easily be removed by the new owner without disturbing the color.

1953-S Quarter, Choice Unc, Light Original Toning
Year: 1953S
Condition: Gem Uncirculated
Description: Light "speckled" red-brown toning highlights, over the typical creamy, slightly soft 1950's S-Mint luster seen on the Quarters produced at the "Grey Lady". A couple of small marks, but the fields are very clean.

1954-D Jefferson Nickel, Superb Toning
Year: 1954D
Condition: PCGS MS-64
Description: An unusual specimen, in that the deep toning developed over years spent in an old album, more so that it is a specimen from Denver. Unless out of a Mint Set, most toned Nickels of this type that I have seen all seem to be from Philly. The grade is typical of PCGS, in that they do not like to certify coins above MS-63 or 64, depending upon the series, if they have deeper toning. Certainly, if you look at the coin, it looks much cleaner than the average 64 Jefferson Nickel, which would usually mean a lack of strike leaving planchet voids - none of that here. All of which is immaterial given the color. The Obverse is 100% covered in sheet toning in various shades of orange, salmon and pink and soft green; the Reverse is lightly toned but mostly a natural nickel color. Difficult as usual to image properly, due to reflection from the slab, and the common scuff at the center of the window did not make it any easier! Throw away the "price guide" for this coin as it is strictly for the lover of toned Nickels.

1957 Jefferson Nickel, Superb Gem Proof, Toned!
Year: 1957
Condition: PCGS PF-67
Description: (This coin has been sold, but I left the listing posted as I just though the coin was COOL) I think the images speak for themselves - a stunningly toned original 1957 Proof Nickel, in the deeper tones that such coins typically develop. Almost perfect concentric ring surrounds Jefferson's portrait and Monticello, with slightly hazy centers and yellow/orange/red/blue rims. As usual, I had difficulty getting an accurate image of the color due to reflection from the slab, but these should give you a decent idea of the colors. The scuff shown is the typical "PCGS scuff" that seems to develop DEAD CENTER in the middle of the holder window to partially obscure the coin. I swear they must manufacture the holders with the scuff built in, as I have gotten back brand new certs with these! While causing a problem with imaging, these do not seem to affect the normal viewing of this coin.

1957 Jefferson Nickel, Superb Toning
Year: 1957
Condition: PCGS MS-64
Description: (NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE) An unusual specimen, in that the deep toning developed over years spent in an old Wayte Raymond holder - I recovered the coin myself and sent it in, so this is no B.S. Deep silver gray at center with red-orange fields, this gives a sort of "cameo" look to the coin. Difficult as usual to image properly, due to reflection from the slab, and the common scuff at the center of the window did not make it any easier! Throw away the "price guide" for this coin as it is strictly for the lover of toned Nickels.
