HK-425, Weber 31, Shevlin 18-32. A rare Gem Uncirculated example of this design. A souvenir of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, these "slugs" were popular at the time for their resemblance to the original Humbert, et al. $50 Gold Pieces of the 1850's. Significantly scarcer than the Type 1 design (HK-424), based upon how many copies I have seen and owned. These typically seem to have crappier surfaces than the HK-424 as issued, with a sort of “pebbled” look. However, the only NGC MS-65's & 66's of the 424/425 types certified are this HK number, suggesting that they were produced later in the run of the Expo and some were left unsold as "remainders". NGC Pop of 6 in MS-65, 2 in MS-66 (when listed). No auction records to go by, however MS-62/63 range pieces commonly sell for $400 or so.
