1889 Liberty Nickel, Choice BU, PCGS MS-63

1889 Liberty Nickel, Choice BU, PCGS MS-63

237.00

An original Choice Uncirculated coin in an older Blue Label holder, with no major marks. Just some light scuffs and signs of handling, and a touch of light toning. Very well struck, even on the wreath on the Reverse - somewhat oddly enough, this side also shows a heavy die crack, the obvious penalty for the Mint in striking this series fully (which is perhaps why they commonly did not). Typical "retail" pricing on this series is idiotic, and represents the fact that the average MS-62 or 63 certified coin usually shows excessive hairlines (commonly from actually having been cleaned), spots, stains, dull luster or ugly toning - in other words a coin that either barely made it into the holder, or shouldn't have in the first place! Conversely, correctly graded MS-63's (and 64's) are a BARGAIN at anywhere near current levels, as there are very few to choose from - I know as I am always looking. As an example, an equivalent coin in another old blue label PCGS cert sold for $259 not too long ago at Heritage.
