1924-S Buffalo Nickel, Very Fine, Original Semi Key Date

1924-S Buffalo Nickel, Very Fine, Original Semi Key Date

339.00

A true Semi Key Date in better grades - tough above a Fine due to atrocious striking characteristics. Probably the date most often given a "mulligan" by the grading services, who tend to assign a numerical grade based upon the Obverse of the coin only.  This is also one of the very few Buffalo Nickel dates where I will bend my rule that a VF coin has to have a full visible coin, mainly as 1) I cannot purchase ANY '24-S with a full horn as a VF, as they are all in EF holders by now, and 2) good luck finding one anyway. In my opinion, this coin is a true Very Fine in terms of overall detail and surface.  Better struck than many, although it show some signs of die wear and erosion, as well as a heavy clash under the Native's chin (the odd lump at the junction of throat & jawline).  3/4 horn, more than you will usually see even in certified VF-25 to 30 holders - take a look at many of the coins shown on PCGS CoinFacts.  However, given all that I cannot bring myself to ask “all the money” such as I would with a true "old school" VF.  Priced based upon the commercial reality that if submitted, this will certify as a Very Fine -  the viewer can make up their own mind as to whether the coin merits the asking price.  Certification is not worth my time to do so, as I find it harder to sell such a coin in plastic, however this is sold with the guarantee that it will certify as a Very Fine should you wish to send it in.  If you wish to do so, please contact me for details of my extended return privilege for certification.
