1915-S Barber Dime, About Almost Uncirculated, Better Date

Unlike most late dates in most coin series, the 1915-dated Barber Dimes and Quarter from San Francisco are tougher in better circulated grades grades. Mintages were under 1 Million for each, suggesting that either local demand for small Silver was lower, or the Mint was busy on other projects. This meant that a much smaller number were hoarded in nice condition, even given that 1915 was the date of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in the City. Normally, a World’s Fair or other major even was cause for saving coins of that date as souvenirs. In fact ALL of the 1915-dated San Francisco coinage is at least a bit scarcer. Either way the 1915-S Dime is definitely not all that common at or above VF. This is a “Commercial AU” specimen, and might very well certify as an AU-50 if submitted - certainly many dealers would offer it as such after dipping it to remove the toning.
