Calico-81. The largest denomination struck by the Spanish Empire for circulation in their Philippines Colony, this coinage was replaced quickly after the end of the Spanish-American War. The basic design was similar to that also struck for Puerto Rico, another Spanish possession that came into American hands for the same reason. Both the Spanish Philippines & Puerto Rico coinages are commonly collected as an adjunct to the U. S. Territorial coinages produced for the Philippines, along with that of the Hawaiian Islands. Images are of the coin prior to certification, as they came out better - TrueView image also available upon request.
