Coronation Medal for George I, Original Royal Mint Issue, Nice Color

Coronation Medal for George I, Original Royal Mint Issue, Nice Color

$335.00

Official coronation medal struck by the Royal Mint for the investiture of George I of Great Britain, 1714. Eimer 470, MI ii 423/8. Dies by J. Croker, original mintage reported as 1,200, from a number of slightly different dies.  Almost Uncirculated, with considerable remaining reflectivity in the protected areas of the lettering and around the devices. No overt signs of cleaning, an overall light grey with red undertones in the fields with brighter blues and yellows around the rims, certainly attractive. Price based upon similarly graded specimens sold in the UK or Europe in the last five years or so, those pretty consistent at £220-260 ($325-$400) and described as Near EF to Good EF (equivalent to an American AU or better).
