HK-245A, 1894 California Mid-Winter Expo Official Medal, NGC AU-58, Problem Free

$139.00

A souvenir of the 1894 California Mid-Winter Exposition held at San Francisco. The design considered the "official medal" although it was not specifically issued labeled as such. Dies by Moise of the City, the second and more commonly seen type. However, in my experience most copies are circulated and almost always show problems. Many are damaged or heavily marked, most show spotting or staining problems. This is likely due to the quality of the Brass used to make planchets, Moise being a commercial maker of "fraternal goods". Just a touch of light wear on spot free yellow-ocher surfaces, still displaying good luster. A couple of extremely small, light stains if you look hard for them. Otherwise about as nice a Choice AU piece as you will run across in a long time. A good alternative to the small number of real Uncs, which do not show up to be sold, and when properly priced are in the $300-$400 range.
