HK-399, Official Medal, 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition, Silver

$385.00

Official Medal from 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, struck in Silver. Shevlin SH 18-1, Swoger 21a. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, commonly erroneously listed as being struck on the Exposition grounds (only Bronze medals were so produced). Choice Almost Uncirculated, if submitted for certification would likely come back AU55 or 58 - a flip of the coin, however my bet is a 55. Typical of a piece very briefly carried as a pocket piece souvenir of the event. Some of the flat spots on the highest points of relief are due to incomplete strike rather than wear, as this issue is commonly found poorly struck. Most of the luster remains, with a few light "hairlines", I think from its brief use as a pocket piece and NOT from a cleaning. Valued in Shevlin at $325 in AU-50, $475 in MS-60.
