HK-893, Whipple Dollar, undated however typically assigned to the 1890's.  Long a mystery as to the "why" it was made, the most likely explanation is that this folds into the various souvenir issues struck during the contentious 1896 Presidential campaign commonly called "Bryan Money".  A very accurate replica design of the 1878 Morgan Dollar Reverse, which likely caused enough problems with the Treasury Dept. that distribution was limited.  Virtually all of the NGC certified examples are Mint State, which tends to support this presumption. This is an original piece that has been off the market for well over 30 years in the "hoard" of a now retired coin dealer, and was likely never owned by a true SCD collector.  I will note also that I feel the assigned grade is a bit short, as I can certainly see this at a point or so higher.
