HK-876, Denver Mint Opening Souvenir, NGC MS-62BN

$999.00

HK-876, struck as a souvenir to mark the opening of the Denver Mint in 1905, and as a test of the large press intended to strike $20 Double Eagles. On a similarly sized planchet to a $20 Liberty, in Bronze rather than Gold naturally. Long popular as a Mint-struck medal and collected by fans of U. S. Gold as well as part of the SCD series. This increased demand means these tend to sell for a bit more than their survival would indicate.  An original piece, no hairlines, problems or distraction, just a scattering of light random marks typical of a souvenir lightly handled prior to be put away. The streak on the Reverse is likely from contact with something during storage (not a "gouge" or mark of any kind). Pricing is somewhat difficult, as few comparable pieces have sold at auction recently that I can find.
