U. S. Grant 1868 Campaign Medal, Dewitt USG-1868-22, NGC MS-63, Undergraded
Token struck for the 1868 Presidential Campaign of Ulysses S. Grant. DeWitt D-USG-1868-22, White Metal. Certified NGC MS-63, I believe the finest certified in White Metal. This piece does not show in the NGC population as it was certified prior to NGC establishing a complete Census; the cert # will not show up in a search, however I guarantee authenticity. The sole NGC White Metal example presently listed is an MS-62. In my opinion of certifying coins and tokens over 30+ years, this is clearly undergraded by current standards, with very clean fields and and obvious amount of cameo contrast. It certainly has the distinct possibility of certifying at a higher grade. Most importantly UNHOLED - all other White Metal examples I noted were holed, including the one NGC MS-62 (cert #6530626-16, ex-DeWitt). The finest numerically graded piece that I know of, the ex-John Ford Aluminum MS-64 is similarly holed. This ex-Richard Crosby, earlier ex-Steve Hayden auction October, 2011; last sold by Steve Hayden to the past owner December 2022. An important opportunity for the discerning collector who wants the possible finest known example of this famous piece. Please note that due to value this will require Insured shipping with Signature Confirmation, hence the S&H shown.
