1880 Shield Nickel, Choice Proof, Popular Date

1880 Shield Nickel, Choice Proof, Popular Date

$530.00

This is a raw (uncertified) coin, mounted in a Coin World slab-style holder as shown. Typical mid-grade Shield Nickel Proof (PR63 to 64), with some hairlines on the Reverse.  This is almost inevitable on coins at grades below Gem Proof, based upon the fact that these typically came out of an old coin board or folder-style album.  Most coins like this will still certify if submitted, as they expect such issues (there is in fact a PCGS certified Proof currently listed on ebay as of early August that shows this clearly).  The small spot at the star beneath "UN" is a struck-in grease spot, Mint made.  Since the Business strike 1880 Nickel is darn near impossible to find, let alone at less than $3,000, Proofs like this are commonly substituted in most Shield Nickel sets. As an example, an NGC PR-53 example sold on ebay for $501 in July of this year. This should work for someone.
