Not a dull "mud brown" coin as it shows a considerable amount of original planchet color on the Obverse.  The Reverse was obviously the "down" side in an old coin folder for many years as it is toned a more uniformly medium brown, other than a few small areas of bright surface where the planchet mix was not slightly even.  This date is know for having some issues with "woodgrain" toning, which this thankfully avoids.
