1869 Indian Cent, Choice Very Fine, Original Semi Key Date, Scarce
Choice Very Fine, the grade level where this date becomes a Semi Key. In terms of the date, original and problem free - one tiny rim ding at 3:00 which I would not call an issue. 1869 Cents are among the toughest of the Indians to find problem free, due to heavy use after Mintages dropped after 1870, due to the redemption feature of the Mint Act of 1871 (refer to Snow for details). As a result, coins with obvious problems will still get certified in clean holders - check out PCGS CoinFacts if you don't believe me. Not to far from EF and I think minor softness of detail is due to the worn hub mentioned in Snow - certainly I know more than a few dealers who would try to call this "EF". This example is NICE, and coins like this do not trade at typical levels. If you know the series, the price shown here should not bother you too much.
