1955 Doubled Die Lincoln Cent, NGC/CAC MS-62BN
1955 Doubled Die Lincoln Cent, NGC/CAC MS-62BN
FS-101. Choice Uncirculated, certified NGC/CAC MS-62BN. An attractive original chocolate Brown example of this popular error/variety. Solid luster and minimal marks, not quite as "red" looking as my images show (caused by the lighting used to image it). Nice clean holder, maybe a few light scuffs. Newer research suggests that approx. 24,000 were originally released, with CoinFacts estimating about 15,000 survivors. 70% of the PCGS (and presumably NGC as well) POP are in circ grades, leaving a theoretical maximum of between 3,000 and 4,000 Uncirculated examples. There are certainly more than that number of Small Cent collectors to absorb those coins that come on the market. A solid example that should please any picky collector of the series. As a side note: there is a PCGS/CAC MS-62BN currently available from another dealer at $4,600 (on Collectors Corner) that does not even hold a candle to this example, having noticeably less eye appeal. While the images posted are crappy, they suggest that the coin shows definite contact to the Obverse high points, making them darker, and the coin has minor spotting and “grunge” in the lettering, etc. I would suggest that the coin offered here offers a considerably better value.
