HK-296, 1902 Wells Fargo Semicentennial, NGC MS-64

$2,420.00

HK-296, struck to celebrate the 1902 Semicentennial of Wells Fargo & Company.  Choice Uncirculated, certified NGC MS-64.  Not as dark as many copies so it was likely removed from the original case fairly quickly.  The flocked paper cases typically toned pieces very heavily. Attractive light matte Silver colored surfaces with minimal marks, the only one of note a minor rim bruise visible on the Obverse side.  Original designer of the dies and who struck these said to be unknown, however the work has always suggested to me Tiffany's of New York.  Total number struck also unknown to any certainly, however almost certain to be in the low thousands originally, based upon the standard that a medal was presented to each employee of at least one year's service.  However, the vast majority likely melted or lost over the years as only less than approx. 300 certified (272 at NGC + PCGS).  For comps, Goldberg recently sold a NGC MS-63 at $2,100, with Heritage selling an MS-64 with similar lighter surfaces at $2,400 August, 2024. Always popular with So Called Dollar collectors, as well as those of Old West collectibles including U. S. Gold coins due to the banking connection.  Note: the case shows some light scuffing, however no damage. Please note that due to value this will require shipping with Signature Confirmation, hence the S&H shown. Due to recent problems with the USPS, this includes Insurance, to protect both parties to the sale - if you don't like the cost, write your Congressman ...
