HK-405, SH 18-15 GP, 1915 Georgia State Fund Dollar, GOLD PLATED, RARE
HK-405, Georgia State Fund Dollar, struck to raise funds for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition at San Francisco. Shevlin SH 18-15 GP, struck in Bronze and Gold Plated, per the term used by Jeff Shevlin in his text on Expo SCD's. Unfortunately, NGC (and presumably PCGS as well), does not recognize this variety - despite my pointed identification of this piece when I sent it in, with the SH number provided. Very Rare, Shevlin lists this as an R-9; I know that I can trace very few examples, only two that I could definitely identify since 2018 (one Heritage, one ebay). I have owned a number of Georgia's struck in the usual Bronze and this has a completely different finish and is clearly plated, readily visible by the minor chipping of the surface. Despite that, unquestionably Uncirculated. I have provided images taken prior to certification as well as in the NGC holder. Due to the lack of NGC attribution, valuing is difficult given the usual collector resistance to believe anyone but the so called "experts". Be that as it may, priced based upon my own belief of value. Shevlin shows $1,450 in MS-60 (which would look like crap) and $2,500 in MS-63. As the old saying goes, "go find another". Please note that due to value this will require shipping with Signature Confirmation, hence the S&H shown. Registered Mail may be necessary to certain problematical locations (slower delivery time).
