1899 Barber Half Dollar, PCGS/CAC VF-35, The Only CAC Coin in the Grade
Just about a complete match to the PCGS 1892 Half I also have listed (if still available) – maybe just a touch of more reddish undertone. Both that coin and the PCGS 1895 Half listed came out of the same set. Amazingly enough for what is considered a common date, the sole CAC approved coin in the grade as of the date listed, versus a total of 55 in the grade at PCGS/NGC. In this specific case that may be due to a relatively lower value for the coin, however the CAC premium is at least 1/3 of the non-CAC value (which was enough for me to consider submission). I think it says more about the general quality of certified Barber Halves, as few dates have an approval rate of greater than 10%. In my professional opinion that makes any CAC-approved Barber Half worth a real, significant premium.
